Web 2.0 Definition

So its getting late in the day and frankly my traditionally weak spelling will now unravel even further due to the slightly boss eye look I am currently sporting, but this won't detract from me key stroking a little on something that happened to us this morning.  Caspar will do the core review, but we attended a wonderful seminar entitled Web 2.0 - Silver Bullet or Foul's Gold?  It was arranged by Chris Clarke of Clarke Mulder Purdie, with guest speakers including Adam Boulton, the political editor at Sky and Jon Bernstein, the multimedia Editor at Channel 4.

Many core "learnings" (actually is that a real word?) from this event and a rewarding shot in the arm that there are others out there who share our views, but a couple of things stood out:

1) Graham Hayday, a senior consultant at Clarke Mulder Purdie gave Tim Burners Lee's definition of web 2.0 and frankly it was spot bloody on!!  Obviously due to the time and the fact that I didn't right it down at the time - is a man thing: I can't lie in a comfy chair in a posh hotel in London listening to people speak AND write at the same time - I can't quote Graham, but the sentiment was clear.  Web 2.0, a new paradigm of connectivity the likes of which man kind has never seen...bollocks!  (Can I say that?  I need a word with impact and a limited vocabulary means crudities will appear!!)* The web has always been about connecting people since its inception...HOW TRUE.  This second wave of excitement is more a dawning of the possibilities for the masses OH and the fact that BT has deemed it practical to give us all a bit more bandwidth.

2) Adam Boulton ended his piece with a great thought. Remember this...there are other things in this world besides the web, so don't forget about them.  He's right.  We know a few 19/20 year olds who share their capacious knowledge with us....but lads 16 hours a day in Facebook, it ain't right...

Want the clever stuff...have a look at Caspar's bit...much more learned - now that's a word.

*If my mother was reading this she would remark on the fact that it is strange to refer to cut carrot and cucumber in my Bloganote-ie-thing...She is so 2.0 in so many special ways...
