Blogs as recruiting tools

At Trovus we are comfortable with, and talk to our clients about, blogs as recruiting tools. The idea goes something like this - if a potential recruit can read the thoughts of staff and senior management before the recruiting process begins they feel like they belong and have already started to form a relationship with their future peers and managers.
However, whilst talking to a potential Trovus recruit today another use occurred to me. Whilst obviously directing him to this site and our Trovus corporate site, I also suggested he go to my personal blog - jonmell.co.uk. This is because in the archives of last month (has it been that long already) I was blogging about joining Trovus, what I thought of it and my feelings at the time. This is a great example of how a blog can record a moment in time, and describe to a potential recruit what I was feeling during the recruiting process, after my first day, two weeks in etc. etc.
Even if (as I would be!) I was minded to give him a warts and all description of what it's like to work here, my own views could be changed by time or my particular mood at the moment, my blog can capture it and remember it to a degree of accuracy impossible for even the most objective of viewpoints.

Great point - you can see it from both sides as you were blogging about coming in and we were blogging about getting you in...
