Retail BI challenges - How to Increase User Engagement
Retail was leading the thinking behind how to make the most out of data generated by customers. But even today, not all Store Managers are making the most out of available technologies and innovation.
Successfully scaling up Store Managers' engagement
Based on our conversations with some senior decision makers, we found that people still feel the need to make progress on some of the following areas to considerably increase user engagement:
- Making faster decisions - making insights more accessible in a user friendly way (mobile, tablets etc).
- Being more responsive to changing customers' requirements - faster information delivery enabling quick reactions.
- Understanding omni-channel engagement. Connecting data points about customers from both the on and offline touch points.
- Forecasting instead of just analysing historical trends.
- Analyzing less structured data sets.
Top 3 challenges IM teams and Store Managers need to address
As part of the same conversations, we also found that, the main three challenges that make this more difficult to achieve than it seems are:
- Lots of data is available - filtering through the information to make it relevant is a real challenge. Smart data mining is still a real challenge.
- BI is still pushed by the IM and Technology teams. Business users are not engaging with the information in a way they can then act on it. In other words, ROI on BI investments are not fully exploited and capitalised on.
- Master data management and analyzing unstructured data is a technology challenge. A lot of technology decisions are dictated by legacy platforms instead of analysing business needs and aligning user requirements.
