Lessons in Web 2.0

I just wanted to take a few seconds to welcome Jon Mell to the Trovus fold.  Jon and I spent the day getting him accustomed to the few little foibles that Trovus has developed in its first 8 months of trading.  Jon comes with a gold plated pedigree when it comes to enterprise class collaboration and portal solution (IBM Websphere, Connections and Quickplace / Quickr) and he wraps around this a very strong personal interest in what he sees in the wider technology market.

I have written about Jon on the build up to him starting with us and it was clear from a few of the comments we have received that we could not hide our enthusiasm for him to join.  Today, I began to see that depth of knowledge, first hand - and it is inspiring.  My background has been around the web for 10 years and while I would never be so conceited as to say that I have capacious knowledge, but I aware of a good deal.  But today I realised that Trovus has taken a remarkable step forward.

For me the clearest thing coming across is the articulation of what second generation web technologies can do for business.  Trovus has developed a very strong positioning story around what we believe the web can do.  We have developed solutions to address these and this has brought us to this point - a functioning, growing and profitable small business.  With Jon's involvement, Trovus can stand a little taller and speak with more authority and significantly it has the credentials (been there seen it, tried it, fixed it, done it) to back up what it says.

So what sort of impact has Jon had on day one....well he has probably saved us from developing an application that we thought was relatively unique only for Jon gently but reliably inform us that it is buried inside Office and is just waiting to "turned on".   What does this mean to us...cash stays in the bank to fight again tomorrow when the next app springs to mind, a new revenue stream emerges as we go around helping our clients turn the functionality on and more importantly, a relationship develops as we show them how to get value from it....NOT BAD for your first day mate.

Here's something else - Giraffe Club sandwich...got mine in Richmond today.....unbelievable - "It were a taste sensation" - who knows what it takes to combine avocado, bacon, bread, butter, lettuce tomato etc etc. in such a way is it tastes better than licking the knife after spreading peanut butter on marmite toast...But it was a triumph....HOORAH!! I hope your sales rocket...or rather blip...or at least someone walks in and orders one now just ‘cause they are curious...

Thanks Ed - it's exciting to be on board. I would just like to make clear that whilst my enthusiasm matches the picture you've attached, that is not what I look like!
